Dutch Boho

So I was trying different types of braids and including my new elastic headbands, and what I came up with, was dutch braiding my hair, partly over and partly under the headband, to give a regular headband type of look. So really, the headband is just decorative at the moment, but small steps.  So I dutch braided my hair, then, I tugged at the sections gently, which gave it that nice full look, which although my hair is thick itself, the braid itself becomes surprisingly small. So a side dutch braid + yellow headband = a boho look. And, Boho (it took me a while before I actually looked it up) or bohemian hairstyles tend to work very well for my hair. And the fact that I like how they look in a grand plus! And experimenting now before the weather gets super hot again is going to be nice, also, it's hard to find easy but nice looking style for long hair that's not a type of ponytail, and this is a braid, but not to many braids actually get the hair off your neck. So hopefully I&

Greek Goddess

So in trying a new Hairstyle today, I found that I not only (1 Have an excessive amount of hair when it comes to styling it. But that (2 I really need to use the right hairstyling stuff.  The style was putting on a headband over the hair, and taking small pieces and twisting them, then twisting them around the headband, until all the hair is wrapped around the headband and, if needed, use a couple of bobby pins.  I used a thin elastic headband to put up my hair, and lets just say the resulting hairstyle was rather unexpected. I expected a nicely rolled up out of the face and off the neck hairstyle, while what I got was a really puffy on top, widely rolled slightly spikey roll. The result when I first saw it, I thought I was attempting to be a Greek Goddess for some sort of party! But I like it nonetheless. It's only the first attempt, and to be honest not all my first attempts look quite this nice.  So really, if your hairstyle when you first try it doesn't look that great t

Stuck

So this weekend has been full of both productivity and inactivity, because hurting your knee bad enough to make you unable to walk tends to put a bit of a damper on things. Well, but I did get begin the process of redoing my bedroom! I have lots of boxes that need sorted and such, deciding what to keep, throw away, or sell. Sometimes (far more often than I have done) you need to just clear all the clutter away, and get rid of all the things you don't want or need, any longer. Also, I've had plenty of time to find things online for inspiration on how I would like to fully redo my room when it's fair weather again, and I can open my windows to let fresh air in. But I the meantime, finding ways to amuse myself until my knee heals will be a process of its own. Although I tend to be easily interested in things I do for hobbies, I had to hurt my knee the one week that I have hit both a drawing and writers block. And quite frankly that doesn't leave me much to do without movin

Snow Day

So last night we got at least a half and inch of ice, and then over an inch of snow on top of that throughout the day. Possibly two.  So today became a snow day! Most times like this, I prefer to either (1. play in the snow, or (2. Do stuff inside.  I managed to do both!  I have a lot of excess things in my room, and strewn throughout the surfaces and floor. Also, a lot of  unpacked boxes, and a lot of things that I don't even know any more why I still have them.  So this Spring/Summer, I'm going to collaborate with some people and have a yard sale. It'll be nice to have some of the stuff gone.  So rearranging furniture, moving boxes around, and cleaning some stuff (aka. throwing some things in the trash because I really don't care, and most likely haven't thought about it for the past year).  Then playing in the snow, which first was simple going outside and helping a friend de-ice their car, and then avoiding others as I went back to the house. And trying t

Steady Hands

Whenever I have tried to use nail polish, it would always, undoubtedly, end with me asking for another's help to do the other hand. But the past two times I have done my nails, the second one being this morning, I have had no help, and both times my nail polish has remained on the nails only.  Previously, my hands would shake a lot and I didn't have a whole lot of control over the brush, and would resort to keeping my brush hand still and moving my other hand under it instead. Which would sometimes still result in a poorly done set of nails.  But now, I have done a reasonably good job, which is to say I will not be taking the nail polish off until it has chipped off to a good degree.  Even so, I always do it on a day that I don't have plans on going anywhere. In case. But polish is tricky. It can be super thin, or thick, or it might be very drippy and still be thick.  I never know, so I always try new polishes when I'm not going anywhere. I used to have a large collec

Valentines

Valentines day, it's quite the event. Of which the main thing I look forward too is chocolate and the like.  As it is with almost every movie night with my family, it ends with a nice amount of sweet treats and popcorn, and a couple of movies we all can watch over and over again. One of them being, You've Got Mail.  I love the movie, it's one of my favorite movies, a great story, and I love any movie that I have seen with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. And although I've never been to New York, it makes me believe that it could be a pleasant place to visit, despite a good number of things I've heard against it. But I would like to visit some day.  So many things that are simply marvelous in this movie. Just little simple things, the books mentioned, and just... I love the movie!  So, I hope your valentines day was a good one. Happy Valentines Day!    -Mae

Friday 13th

Happy Friday 13th! As far as I know there is no holiday anywhere on this particular day. But I tend to have a lot of fun on Friday 13th's.  I know someone born on a Friday the 13th.  I'm not superstitious about them.  I actually make it a point to have fun on them.  Friday's are awesome.  So is the number 13.  So it's a double dose of awesome.  And I have pizza on most Friday's.  So what's not to love?  I definitely love pizza.  And Friday's.  Friday + Pizza + 13 = An awesome end of the school/work week!  Happy Friday the 13th. -Mae

Short Story: #2 What Heights of Love

Although a time of silence and slight chilliness in the church, a little grey frocked girls' mind wasn't on the songs that were being played through the crackling speakers. No. She was as far from that building as she could have been. She stood still with the others in the pew, and sat with them as well when they were seated. But she couldn't understand all the words being spoken, not when there was so much crying around her.  She didn't even know why there was a box, she didn't even know at the time that her great-grandfather was inside. Her little hand was gripped in the firm grasp of her older sister, and she didn't even know why so many people where crying. Then, she watched as people went up one by one and talked, but even seated next to her sister in silence, she didn't understand. When people began walking by the box, she followed her family as they passed the coffin. But all she knew, was that she didn't want everybody to be crying. Then, when

3 AM

Having a day of awesome music and an extremely large flow of creativity, tend to get my brain way over stimulated. As a result, I didn't fall asleep till 3 in the morning, which also meant I was awake for over 19 hours yesterday.  But, it always seems to happen on the nights before an event or something with which I am involved. So, today has been a rather off day, but when I woke up, I seemed to be rather well rested considering I got a little less then 6 hours of sleep. But typically, less sleep like this tends to have my attention span shorted as well, unless it's not on anything super important. But, going outside and working for a little bit did a good amount of clearing my head. The outdoors version of Spring cleaning. Pruning trees and bushes and the like is a nice thing, because you're clearing the area as well as your head.  So that was my 3 am. I am definitely not going to bed when I did last night, nor am I going to stimulate my brain so much. There's a li

Short Story: #1 The Pier

So, I've been told that the music you listen to as you write has an effect on how you write, or how the story tends to play out. So I'm going to try it. So today, it's easy going electronic.   Walking along the pier, feeling the salt spray wash up, she shivered as chills ran up her arms. The pier. Always silent at this time of day, despite the wonderful weather they always seemed to have this time of year. Holding her hand above her eyes as she walked along, wishing she had brought a hat for the glaring sun. It seemed that no matter how brightly is shone, the sea always managed to catch the warmth with it's frigid sprays along the waterfront. But she didn't mind.  Buttoning up her cardigan as the wind became harsher she reached the end of the dock, watching out over the water, her skirt flowing about her, she shivered again as another spray flew up from in front of her, this time nearly wetting her shoes entirely.   She lowered her hand slowly, squinting out ov

2015

So another year has begun, and although it is already February, I still call it the beginning of the year. Mainly because not all that much typically happens in January.  I'm sincerely hoping this year will be something very special, because each year is special in it's own way, despite all the ups and downs of life, because that's how life is. Last year was special, and the year before that, and so on and so forth. But this year I has given myself some goals that I know I can accomplish this year. Including a short summer bucket list, and a reading list! I haven't made either in a long time, so I figured it was about time to start them up again. And even just small goals like stopping a bad habit, like nail biting etc. But I have a lot of hopes for this year, and I plan to make the most of it!  Summer 2015 - A brief list #1. Learn as much as I can #2. Be the best I can be #3. Connect stronger with God #4. And do the things that have been set in my heart to do!
